Chromosomes

Chromosomes (shown in red) consist of both DNA and Protein. The DNA carries the hereditary information of the cell and contains a linear array of many genes. The human genome contains 3.2 x109 DNA nucleotide pairs, divided between 22 different autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes.
