Insulin

Insulin is a protein hormone regulating the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats and is composed of 51 amino acids (round colored balls). It has two parts, which are linked together by disulphide bonds (orange thread) and folds into a 3 dimensional structure (multicoloured 3D shape). Diabetes results when either not enough insulin is produced in the body or when the cells in the body do not respond properly to the insulin
